| 1.0 General (back to top) |
| 1.01 This practice covers the description and operation of the MITI Manufacturing Company's Model FS-I Portable High Pressure Soap injector. |
| 1.02 The manually operated, foot actuated, compact injector is
specifically designed to be highly portable, to set up quickly and simply to provide a means of
injecting fluid soaps and/or decontaminating agents into a high pressure water line (source) which
feeds a personal decontamination wash down device, such as MITI's DeCon Hoop Wash System. Other
applications include equipment wash down such as fire department apparatus. The system is properly
sized for most personnel and patient decontamination applications, as well as equipment decontamination or wash down applications. The unitized system is designed for easy and simple set up and use almost anywhere, inclusion of a foot actuated pump system eliminates the need for electrical power or combustible fuels. The soap reservoir is readily accessible and easy to fill by means of a large lift up, access lid, which is easily removed for servicing, filling and emptying of the reservoir. A latch is permanently attached to the lid for latching it securely down to the reservoir after filling or emptying. The systems compact design enables it to fit in a small storage space or compartment. Drip-less couplings prevent seepage from the unit when the unit is disconnected from the supply line (source). System includes a 3/8" outlet hose, permanently affixed to a brass "T" on one end with a male drip-less quick connector on the opposite end, which attaches to the outlet of the soap injector pump. The brass "T" is outfitted with standard Garden Hose fittings, rigid male on one end and swivel female on the opposite end. This hose assembly enables the system to be connected in-line to the water supply feeding the decontamination equipment, enabling injection of measured bursts of soaps or decontamination neutralizing |

| 3.0 Description (back to top) |
| 3.01 Each assembly consists of a powder coated unitized Pump assembly with built in reservoir, and a separate supply line hose assembly. |
| 3.02 The pump assembly is powder coated orange for high visibility, and to provide superior rust and corrosion protection. |
| 3.03 Reservoir is fabricated of durable steel and welded to the assemblies base plate, creating a virtually indestructible assembly. Convenient large lift up lid, with plated latch down hardware, facilitates easy and quick filling or removal of fluids which have been placed in the reservoir for use. A removable protective filter screen at bottom outlet, located within the reservoir chamber, insures that debris will not be allowed to pass into the pump mechanism or supply line during use. The protective screen is removable for maintenance and cleaning purposes. The large lift up lid has a convenient large carrying handle located on the top side to facilitate easy handling and carrying of the entire assembly. The lid also has a rubber backing which is affixed to the under side which prevents leakage and debris from entering the reservoir when closed. A plated latch is provided for positive latching the lid closed. The reservoir is specifically designed for easy and quick opening and filling when wearing protective clothing. |
| 3.04 The Foot actuated pump assembly is permanently welded in place to the entire pump
assemblies base plate and reservoir, insuring there is always positive connection to the
reservoir and to prevent the possibilities of leaks between the reservoir and pump which could
occur if the system were merely plumbed together by traditional means with pipe fittings. The pump
assembly is specifically engineered to be foot actuated, providing measured bursts of fluid
soaps or decontamination agents when depressed, when and as needed only. This means of injection
insures that the agents being injected can and will not become contaminated or diluted by the
supply (source) water. The systems design prevents back flow into the system by means of a check
valve, which is located within the pump assembly, from the high pressure water (source) supply line
which the system is tied into, for injecting the decontamination agents. The pump's actuation foot
pedal is spring activated, causing the foot pedal of the pump to return automatically to the
starting position quickly, after depressing it to inject a burst of decontaminating soap or agent. The
pump will over come water supply line (source) pressures up to 1250 pounds (878.875 kg/sq m). An
alternate supply line hose may be required for higher end pressures. A drip-less female quick coupler
prevents leakage from the reservoir when the unit is in storage, should fluids be left within the
reservoir. The coupler also provides a quick means of attaching the supply line hose which inter connects with the water supply line (source). |
| 3.05 The Supply Line Hose Assembly is provided to enable connection of the pump and its reservoir to and into the water supply line (source) feeding the decontamination equipment. The assembly's supply hose is ten foot (10') in length and 3/8" (304.8 cm length x .95 cm diameter) and manufactured of reinforced rubber for durable use and long life. A Male drip-less brass quick coupler is attached to the supply line at one end enabling connection of the hose assembly to the pump system assembly. At the opposite end of the hose assembly a brass "T" is permanently affixed providing a means of inter connecting the injection hose assembly, in-line with the water supply line (source). Common brass garden hose connectors are located at each end of the brass "T" to facilitate easy and quick connection into the water supply line (source). The system is readily adaptable (customizable) to other configurations of water supply (source) lines of differing sizes. |
| 3.06 The entire assembly is small in size and can be readily stowed until needed in a confined space or storage compartment. |
| 4.0 Safety Features (back to top) |
| 4.01 The MITI FS-I Portable High Pressure Soap injector provides for quick set up in emergency situations in most any location. |
| 4.02 The system is fabricated of highly inert materials for safety and dependability. It is designed for the application. Replacement components available if required. |
| 4.03 The system is specifically
engineered to allow it to be set
for operation at distance from the hot zone. This allows for maximum control and safe operation during decontamination procedures. |
| 4.04 The High pressure pump system provides additional safety while enabling the system to over come, and inject, decontamination soaps and/or agents in-stream with the high or low pressure water supply line (source) which is providing water to the decontamination equipment. The High pressure design features of the pump insure the pump can overcome most high pressure values that exist in standard decontamination and equipment (apparatus) wash down water supply lines (source) . |
| 4.05 The system is purposely designed to be light weight, easily carried, non abrasive with no sharp edges and to fit into a tight compartments or other storage area. This reduces the chance of personnel back injury. |
