| 1.0 General (back to Top) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 1.01 This practice covers the description and operation of the MITI Manufacturing Company's Model DP-6 Portable DeCon Waste Pool with disposable liner. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 1.02 The pool was specifically designed to be highly portable, to set up quickly and simply to provide a safe and easily accessible, reusable DeCon waste water containment system properly sized for most land or shipboard applications. The system is designed to utilize an economical heavy mil disposable polyethylene liner to retain the waste water during the DeCon wash. The system is also designed to be highly compressible for stowage in tight fitting compartments. A storage bag is provided with each pool. The pool liner retention ring is designed to automatically expand upon releasing it from the storage bag aiding in the quick setup of the system. The expandable pool liner's retention ring is designed to be highly resilient and non-hazardous to personnel or their protective clothing in the event they slip and fall on it during the DeCon process. It is designed to give personnel some amount of cushioning as well as support in the event a fall occurs. A retention hose ring ground pad with pre-attached webbed straps and quick coupler connectors is designed for quick attachment of retention hose keeping it in proper alignment during use. The pad also aids in the prevention of punctures to the disposable liner from rough surfaces or debris which may be located underneath the pad during use. The systems components are constructed of highly inert, water resistant, reinforced, compressible and cleanable materials which allow the unit to be cleaned and stowed in a tight package for re-use. | ||||||||||||||||||||

| 3.0 Description (back to Top) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 3.01 Each assembly consists of a durable moisture resistant, Polyurethane
coated nylon reinforced ground pad with eight polypropylene webbed straps
permanently attached. Each strap is properly sized to fit around the eight inch compressible hose
which creates the retention ring for the disposable liner. In order to securely fasten the retention
hose to the ground pad quick-lock connectors are positioned and permanently attached to the ends
of the webbed straps. The quick connectors also enable the retention hose to be quickly attached to the ground pad for emergency use. A twenty foot long duct hose is utilized to create the retention ring for the pool. This retention hose is constructed of a coil spring wire which is uniformity coiled, formed and pitched at the proper diameter and angle to provide a dependable automatic expansion function. The function of the spring wire is to maintain rigidity and strength in the diameter dimensions while still enabling the hose to be compressed for storage and to provide a controlled jack in the box effect when released to provide for quick set up and use. A protective coating of polyethylene coated fabric with wear-strip is permanently attached at the wire. The fabric coating protects the wire from water and other contaminants. The fabric coating also keeps the wire from over expanding and combined with the wire wear-strip it will take much abuse from the user without getting tangled or failing in function. The hose is also utilized to cushion the fall of an individual and to have no sharp edges which could damage personnel's protective gear. The pool retention hose connects to itself at the ends with quick-lock connectors creating a circular loop. A disposable polyethylene liner (sold separately) is available to retain the waste water. This liner is constructed of 10 mil material for strength and durability. A convenient storage bag with simple closure is provided with each assembly for stowage. |

| 4 .0 Safety Features (back to Top) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 4.01 The MITI portable pool design provides quick set up in emergency situations in most locations. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 4.02 The system is fabricated of highly inert materials for safety and dependability. It is designed for the application. Replacement components available if required. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| 4.03 The disposable liner is of polyethylene which is inert to most hazardous materials. This liner after use is easily disposed of in over pack drum preventing future re-use. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 4.04 The fabric coated spring reinforced retention hose expands by itself quickly, is durable and cushions the user in the event he or she slips and falls on it. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| 4.05 The system is purposely designed to be light weight, washable, water resistant, non abrasive with no sharp edges and to fit into a tight compartments or other storage areas. This reduces personnel back injuries as well as allowing more safety equipment to be carried on the Hazmat Vehicle or ships storage compartments. No air or water is required to inflate the system. No fencing or cardboard is required to be installed or assembled prior to use. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 4.06 Ground pad design allows for the use of absorbent pigs, sand bags or other to be placed outside of hose retention ring and on top of pad. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5. 0 Special Precautions (back to Top) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5.01 Always set up on level ground. Remove any stubble or other sharp objects which may puncture ground pad and pool liner. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5.02 Spread ground pad out evenly. Do not leave fabric creases as it could cause abrasions to the liner or instability to personnel in the pool during their DeCon process. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5.03 When connecting retention hose ends and retention hose to the ground pad make sure all quick connectors are securely locked. If they are not locked a spill of waste water could occur. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5.04 When using the pool aboard ship firmly attach pad and retention ring to the deck as rough seas may cause a spill. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5.05 Pump off waste water when it reaches a depth of four inches for shipboard applications and six inches for land based applications. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5.06 Use the polyethylene liners provided for the pool and manufactured by MITI. Manufacturing Company, Inc. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5.07 Dispose of polyethylene liner after use by proper means. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 5.08 DeCon pool components after use and stow for future use. If highly toxic waste is incurred which and DeCon of the pool system is not possible dispose of the entire pool system by proper means. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.0 Operating Procedures (back to Top) | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.01 Locate and remove DeCon Pool from storage area in service vehicle or ships compartment. Carry Pool in storage bag to DeCon site. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.02 Select level spot to place pool, remove any foreign objects which could puncture pool pad or liner. Remove pool pad from storage bag letting hose pop out simultaneously. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.03 Spread out pool pad with attached straps and quick connectors facing up. Make sure there are no folds left in fabric and straps are spread out straight and flat. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.04 Remove the remainder of the hose that is still in the storage bag. Grab both ends of the hose and connect them together by means of the attached webbed belts with quick connectors located at the ends of the hose. While connecting together the connectors, and after you hear them snap together, give them a firm tug to insure that the connectors are locked in place and will not inadvertently come apart. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.05 After the hose ends are securely connected, place the hose onto the ground pad centering it as you lay it in place directly over the sewn on webbed pad belting that you have previously spread out and straightened. This will create a circle with the hose. Locate and bring up each side of the hose a webbed belt and it's connectors. As you bring up the belt ends to lock them together in place be sure to remove any twists from the webbing that may exist as twists will tend to shorten the webbing and make it hard to lock the connectors together. Once you have locked together the quick connectors again give a firm tug to insure that the retention hose to pad quick connector is positively locked in place. Now move around the perimeter of the hose repeating the process until all retention hose pad quick connectors with webbed belts are positively locked in place. With a little practice you will complete the above processes in a minute or less. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.06 Spread out and center the polyethylene liner over the pool retention hose ring. With your hand simply form the liner to the inner edges and bottom of the pool. While kneeling and holding the inner liner in place with one hand, tuck in place underneath the retention hose the excess liner material which is on the outer edge of the retention hose. This is simply accomplished by starting at one point and quickly moving around the perimeter of the pool back to the starting point. |
||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.07 Your pool is ready for use. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| 6.08 After use pump off waste into overpack drum. Dispose of liner in overpack drum. Disassemble pool components and wash down to remove any residual contamination. Wipe down and stow in storage bag for re-use. CAUTION; If pool is contaminated with Hazardous materials that are not removable dispose of pool and all components contaminated by placing them in overpack drum for proper disposal. | ||||||||||||||||||||
